A Spring Day Out Training at Painshill, Cobham

We recently took our dogs on a field trip to Painshill — and it’s safe to say it ticks every box for the perfect training environment and a genuinely beautiful day out.

Why Painshill is ideal for training

One of the biggest advantages of Painshill is that all dogs are required to be on lead. From a training perspective, this is gold.

It means:

  • No unwanted off-lead greetings

  • A controlled environment to practise neutrality around other dogs and people

  • The perfect opportunity to work on loose lead walking and impulse control in real-world settings

You’re not battling chaos — you’re working with the environment. That’s where real progress happens.

A setting that does half the work for you

Beyond the training benefits, Painshill is simply stunning this time of year. The bluebells are out in full force, creating incredible woodland scenes that feel straight out of a film set — which is fitting, as the park has actually been used for film and TV productions over the years.

You’ll find:

  • Beautiful lakes and winding paths

  • Carefully designed landscape gardens

  • The magical Crystal Grotto — always a highlight

  • The iconic Turkish Tent sitting proudly in the landscape

If you’re up for a longer walk, head past the Turkish Tent and follow the paths into the quieter woodland at the back — it’s peaceful, tucked away, and perfect for a slower-paced training session or a calm decompression walk.

Not just for the dogs…

Let’s be honest — it’s a great day out for owners too.

There’s:

  • A lovely tea room

  • Ice cream stops (always appreciated after a good training session)

  • Plenty of spots to sit, relax, and practise a calm settle with your dog

Training in the real world

Days like this are exactly why we emphasise getting dogs out of the “training field” and into real-life environments.

It’s one thing having a dog that behaves perfectly in a controlled space —it’s another having a dog you can take somewhere like Painshill and genuinely enjoy the experience together.

That’s the goal.

If you’d like to be able to take your dog on days out like this — calm, connected, and under control — it’s absolutely something we can help you achieve.
