RESIDENTIAL TRAINING FAQs

How long are your residential training programmes?

Our residential programmes typically run from 3–8+ weeks depending on your dog’s age, behaviour, and goals. We personalise each stay to suit your dog’s needs.

What will my dog learn while they’re with you?

Your dog’s programme will include:

  • Loose lead walking

  • Recall foundations & recall reliability (depending on goals and duration of course)

  • Crate training & calm independent settling

  • Place training (settle)

  • Good manners around people and dogs

  • Confidence building

  • Social neutrality (not overreacting or over-exciting around dogs/people)

  • Basic obedience

  • Exposure to real-life environments

  • Addressing unwanted behaviours (jumping, pulling, mouthing, over-arousal etc.)

Everything is tailored to your dog and your goals.

Can I visit my dog during their stay?

To keep training consistent and prevent emotional setbacks, we don’t offer mid-stay visits.
Instead, you’ll receive regular updates, videos and progress reports so you can follow along with your dog’s journey.

Will my dog get real-world training or just field work during their residential stay?

Absolutely — your dog will receive extensive real-world training, not just field sessions.
We train in a wide range of environments to ensure your dog’s behaviour holds up anywhere you take them, including:

  • Urban environments – high streets, cafés, pubs, pet shops, busy pavements, shops, car parks

  • Rural environments – woodland walks, farm settings, countryside footpaths, open spaces

  • Local villages – Bramley, Cranleigh, Wonersh, Shalford, Godalming

  • Popular training locations – Newlands Corner, village greens, markets

  • Our private training facility – for structured skills, place work, obedience foundations, neutrality and controlled setups

Your dog is trained where life actually happens, ensuring their new skills transfer seamlessly back home.

Do you work with anxious, reactive or challenging dogs?

Yes, we do. Our residential programme is designed to support dogs who need more structure, confidence-building, and professional handling. Every dog is assessed individually so we can ensure we’re the right fit, but many of the dogs who stay with us are anxious, reactive, or struggling with impulse control. With clear guidance, calm leadership and consistent routine, we help them make real, sustainable progress.

Will my dog forget me while they’re away?

Not at all. Dogs have strong bonds with their owners. Your dog will be cared for affectionately and professionally, and will be thrilled to see you at handover — with much better manners!

What happens at the end of the programme?

You will receive:

  • A full handover lesson with clear techniques

  • Structured guidance to continue the training

  • A personalised training plan

  • Support after you take your dog home

  • Video examples and resources where helpful

The goal is that you feel confident and set up for success.

How much does residential training cost?

Our residential training is £850 per week + VAT.
This includes all daily hands-on training, real-world exposure, structured routines, updates, and your dog living inside our licensed family home throughout their stay.

How do I book?

Just use the contact form on our website and we’ll get back to you to discuss availability, suitability and next steps. Spaces are limited and often booked in advance.

Where does Day Training take place?

Day Training is held primarily at our purpose-built training facility in Bramley, where dogs work through structured training sessions, place/settle work, neutrality, loose lead walking, crate time and confidence building.
We also carry out occasional field trips to local villages, parks and real-life environments when appropriate.

How much does Day Training cost?

Our Day Train programme is £65 per day + VAT.
This includes multiple hands-on training sessions, structured downtime, enrichment, social neutrality work, and owner updates.

Do you collect the dogs or do I drop them off?

We offer collection and drop-off only.
Your dog will be picked up in one of our professionally fitted, secure training vans and returned home after their training day.
We do not offer owner drop-offs at the centre.

Collection routes are planned in advance, so timings may vary slightly depending on location.

How often should my dog attend?

Most dogs benefit from 1–3 days per week depending on training goals.
Consistency produces the best results.

What will my dog do during the day?

Your dog will work through:

  • Loose lead walking

  • Recall foundations

  • Social neutrality & calm greetings

  • Confidence building

  • Place training (settle)

  • Structured crate time & rest

  • Controlled social exposure

  • Enrichment

  • Real-world proofing where suitable

It's a structured school day, not free-play daycare.

Will I receive updates?

Yes!
Ella provides regular updates, videos and progress notes, so you always know how your dog is doing.

Is Day Training suitable for reactive or nervous dogs?

Yes — in many cases Day Training can be suitable for mildly reactive, anxious or unsure dogs.
Our structured routines, calm neutrality work, and consistent training can really help build confidence and stability.

However, for dogs displaying moderate to more complex behavioural issues, our Residential Training Programme is often the better option. It provides intensive, round-the-clock structure, controlled exposure, and the consistency needed to make meaningful progress.

If you’re unsure which option suits your dog best, just reach out — we’re happy to advise.
