Our recommendation of the top 5 dog breeds for families and why? Compilation of the top 5 dog breeds for families as recommended by Surrey Labradors supplier of trained dogs for sale.

Here it is! In our opinion the top 5 dog breeds for families, we supply trained dogs for sale and have worked with a whole host of different dog breeds, here are our favourites for families:

Labrador Retriever

There’s a reason why we are Surrey “Labradors”, time and time again the Labrador retriever tops the charts as most popular dog breed and for good reason it achieves this accolade time and time again.  The Labrador is a friendly, intelligent and good natured soul - well known for being a great companion to children and other animals. We love working with the labrador breed, it is our most commonly sold fully trained dog.

Cocker Spaniel

These gentle but smart dogs make wonderful family members.  They are an appropriate size for most family settings and get along famously with children.  We love their affectionate nature and sense of fun.  In our experience they do require a little more time investment in their foundation training needs but they are a breed we love to work with and we have witnessed many families experience lots of joy with the playful and loving cocker spaniels.

Whippet

Perhaps an unusual choice but we have nothing but praise for these beautiful sighthounds as a family pet.  The whippet is a great pet inside the house, they are typically calm and quiet and their short smooth coat is low maintenance.  They form strong bonds with their family and are great affectionate sofa buddies.  Surprisingly these dogs do not require a huge amount of walking, preferring short blasts of speed.

Lagotto Romagnolo

Our hypoallergenic family breed of choice - this non-shedding minority gun dog breed is as allergy friendly as it is possible for a dog to be.  We love the Lagotto’s fun, intelligent and trainable nature - they love to work and are adaptive to the task in hand.  Suitable for active families these dogs enjoy exercise and using their brain, perfect for a family that wishes to take part in some form of activity with their dog.

Golden Retriever

We love the playful yet patient nature of the Golden Retriever and couldn’t imagine a list of top 5 dog breeds for families without them!  The Golden Retriever is highly intelligent but versatile making it suitable as a family pet but also as a therapy support dog.  These dogs are very good with people and children, we love to train and work with them and see them bringing joy to the families they are placed in.
